What are the benefits of a drying filter? It can absorb moisture and prevent acid production. The ability of a drying filter to absorb moisture from the cooling system is an important function. There are many sources of moisture in the system, such as residual air due to improper pumping, system leakage, motor coils, etc. Another important source is the improper operation of ester lubricants, which are highly hygroscopic. Rather, they are happy to absorb the moisture. Ester lubricants absorb more moisture from the environment and are more difficult to separate than previously used mineral oils. The moisture will cause the system to freeze up and corrode the metal parts of the system. The moisture in the system will also hydrolyze with ester lubricants to produce organic acids. In order to prevent the formation of organic acids, the moisture in the system must be kept to a minimum, and the desiccant in the fretting filter can complete this process. Zeolite activated alumina and silica gel are the three most commonly used desiccant.
